Technology has brought us a high level of civilization but we should also consider the hazard caused by electromagnetic fields (radiation) in which most technology oriented devices emit have a high negative impact on the human body.
In the olden days, research shows humans live longer than today and the causes of quick aging, degrading cells, and immune deficiency is linked to technological devices that have electromagnetic waves or fields. Devices that emit radiation are so many in our society today that we cannot either do without them or escape all radiation which they emit.
What are Electromagnetic Fields?
Electromagnetic fields are a combination of invisible electric and magnetic fields of force. They are generated by natural phenomena like the Earth's magnetic field but also by human activities, mainly through the use of electricity.
Some may wonder what are the devices that cause this EMF, here are some of the lists of the causal agents: Wireless communication technologies (incl. dosimetry), Industrial applications, Medical applications, Security applications, Power generation and transmission, Transportation, Household appliances , THz technologies and many more. These devices and applications are what we use daily and we find them everywhere around us, yes they are important for us to use but also very harmful to human health.
Wireless communication technologies are devices and applications like Mobile phones, Mobile phone base stations, Microwave link, cordless phones, terrestrial trunked radio, Bluetooth devices, Baby monitors, WLAN, and smart meters. In general, Research shows that transmitters of these devices operates in the medium frequency range (300 kHz – 3 MHz) typically use monopoles as antennas, whereas in the high frequency range (HF, 3 MHz – 30 MHz) and this may penetrate into human skin and cause damages to some vital organs.
Industrial applications like Static and ELF fields, RF, induction heating, ELF and Medical applications such as Diathermy, Electrosurgery, Active medical devices in and on the human body, cosmetic medicine, transcranial magnetic stimulation, Electro magnetic fields use in MRI can also emits huge radiation.
Also security applications such as Electronic article surveillance systems, conducted electrical weapons and power generation and transmission applications like photovoltaic arrays, wind turbines, transformer and power substations can cause more harm than good to human health and diet consumption.
Others like Microwave ovens, induction hobs, electric heating systems, radio controlled toys also emit radiation. Static magnetic fields interact with living tissues via electrodynamic and
magneto mechanical interactions (WHO, 2006).
A working group at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) within the
Monograph program on the evaluation of carcinogenic risks to humans classified the
epidemiological evidence for glioma due to mobile phone use as limited, but extended the
conclusion to the entire RF range and classified it as possibly carcinogenic to humans
(IARC 2013, Baan et al., 2011).
Overall, there is little evidence that moderate mobile phone use is associated with risk of
any cancer in the head and neck region. This is supported by large-scale epidemiological
studies of three different designs.
EMF can also affect the way humans eat thereby altering dietary plans but most people eating plant-based diets are less exposed to radiation.
In conclusion, we can not do without technology because it is the root of civilization and at the same time we cannot endeavor to cope with the harmful effects it causes to human health. But there are several ways to reduce the impact of EMF or radiation in the human body. Many companies are now developing anti-radiation devices which can reduce radiation. These anti-radiation devices can be attached to mobile phones, laptops, radios, and even houses. We can use these EMF devices and also find a way of protecting ourselves against its side effects.
